Back Seat Driver

A Saskatchewan band that's music is a fusion of neo-soul and roots, with a focus on organic grooves and heartfelt lyrics.

Their debut EP stands out for its live off the floor recording, mixed on a 1971 Allen & Heath System 8 console, which adds a warm retro vibe to the production.

Inter-generational music influences create a palpable blend in their music and performances.

The band draws inspiration from the belief that simplicity allows for the greatest growth, a theme evident throughout their debut, self titled EP.

How It All Started

Back Seat Driver is a Regina, Saskatchewan–based band bringing a vibrant mix of neo-soul, roots, and groove-driven music to the local live scene. Known for their organic feel, tight musicianship, and standout vocals, the group blends soulful covers with upbeat originals that lean into rhythm, swing, and feel-good energy.

A familiar name in Regina venues, Back Seat Driver has built a reputation for engaging live shows from intimate bar sets to release parties where their dynamic sound and infectious stage presence keep audiences coming back! Whether delivering smooth, laid-back grooves or high-energy sets, they capture the spirit of a band that thrives on connection and live performance.

Back Seat Driver came together as a natural extension of friendship and a shared love of music. What began as casual jam sessions between Dara Schindelka and her son Sam on keyboards, alongside drummer Gil Beck and his son Harland Beck, quickly grew into something more. The group’s easy chemistry reflects both family ties and a genuine joy in playing together.

The connection traces back to Sam and Harland, who were introduced through Regina guitarist Kris Craig. That introduction sparked a friendship that would ultimately bring the group together, blending generations and influences into a project rooted in fun, collaboration, and community.
